Remembering Pearl Harbor

Ways to honor the infamous moments of Dec. 7, 1941.

1. The area's biggest commemoration is at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the American Airpower Museum at Republic Airport, home of a squadron of operational World War II aircraft. The event is open to the public. Several vintage WWII aircraft will perform a fly-over this morning at Republic, then head west toward New York City. From overhead, pilots will drop roses into the waters around the Statue of Liberty in memory of the Pearl Harbor dead. 

2. In memory of the nearly 3,000 American servicemen and civilians killed in the Dec. 7, 1941 attack, Americans have been asked to fly flags at half-staff today. You might consider visiting the Cradle of Aviation Museum in Garden City to learn about Long Island's key role in World War II. 

3. Sunday's Northport Parade:  held an observance on Sunday featuring a service at  and a parade down Main Street with Pearl Harbor survivor Frank Minnock. The parade ended at  for a wreath laying ceremony. Check out the  here.
