Huntington's Most-Run Stop Signs

Where are the most run-stop signs in the Huntington area?

Running a stop sign is a common sight in any town throughout Long Island. At times, it seems like no big deal though at other times it may have disastrous consequences.

Do you know of a location in Huntington where a stop sign is frequently rolled through or ignored? Tell us where it is in the comments.

Old Walt Whitman rd and Norwich right by Sam Ash as you come off 110. I got hit there last year by someone who ran the stop sign

Frank, As a 33 yr. resident, the worst in Huntington is the intersection of Southdown Rd. and Browns Rd. A blinking red light installed by the town more than 10 years ago in response to an accident involving a child hit by a car walking home from Southdown Elem.school, at a cost of $10,000, with 3 additional stop signs results in complete non compliance roll throughs and no stops by residents of Lloyd Neck as well as the same by resident traffic making right turns from Southdown to Browns Rd. THE SUFFOLK & LLOYD NECK POLICE RARELY LAY TRAPS IN UNMARKED CARS ESPECIALLY WHEN SCHOOL IS IN SESSION !!!!! What a great way to make revenue for Suffolk County and Lloyd Neck Village especially when many pedestrians, dog walkers , and runners use this intersection and town governments need revenue.

Frank, P.S. THIS IS THE SAME INTERSECTION AT SOUTHDOWN RD. AND BROWNS RD. WHERE A DRUNK WOMAN & HER BOYFRIEND DROVE THROUGH ON BROWNS RD. AT 4 AM. STRAIGHT THROUGH A 93 YR. OLD WOMAN'S HOUSE INTO HER BACK YARD IN JUNE !!!!! HER HOUSE IS STILL CONDEMNED.

East 17th St. & Talmadge Dr. Huntington Station

@ Forthill Voice really???? Roll through stop signs. YOU are the reason why this is such a problem. You can kill a child. Stop means stop not roll through. I don't even know why I'm wasting my time on you for writing such a comment. Stop rolling through stop signs. And next time you comment stay on the actual topic.

West 14th Street and 4th Avenue. Cars do not stop at the stop sign at the intersection of Hickory Place and 4th Avenue nor do they stop at the stop sign at the intersection of West 13th Street and 4th Avenue; and 4th Avenue is a major cut through from New York Avenue to West Hills Road thus it is a very busy road.
Margaret August 13, 2012 at 06:18 PM
Erik I cannot agree more, cars also don't stop at E. 17th and Talmadge Dr. It's soooo dangerous that people fly through these stop signs. Some actually "ROLL" through but I have seen many just flying through these stops signs as if they don't even exist. It's Horrible !!!!!

Any of them...people hardly stop for stop signs anymore....
Sue Anne August 13, 2012 at 06:45 PM
Every stop sign on East 17th Street between Depot and NY Avenue!

4 way stop at Carley & Lawrence Hill in Huntington ! A death trap !

What makes them a hazard is that they are, in too many cases, unnecessary, so people don't want to stop. No stop at all would be cleaner and safer - people approaching intersections would be more careful if they think they have to look for traffic rather than assume it "has to stop". Plus we'd save gas and brakes and annoyance. Putting a stop sign up just to slow people down has a net bad effect on safety. Another example of idiots ruling the world. Prime Example: Gibson Ave at Orchard Pl. Absolutely ridiculous. Another one that has almost caused several accidents since being installed a few months ago: Maple Hill at Fort Hill. Pure confusion where there was never a problem before. Retarded.

Hi Gigi! I love you! Anyone who realizes that the "authorities" are no more than sanctioned predators is someone I want to applaud. The idiots, the weak (as in lazy, good for nothing parasites – I’m not referring to victims of misfortune or disability) and the morally bankrupt are taking over America. What happened to personal pride, dignity, responsibility and integrity??? I have a hard time finding it. It's been replaced by stop signs, roadblocks and frivolous prosecutions at every turn, implemented by a goon squad that makes more per capita than the scientists at Cold Spring Harbor or Brookhaven Lab – to contribute nothing – while the politicians pose their empty heads for the cameras (Hi Chuck)! Just my opinion!

Just to be fair to the issue: Top of the hill on Mill Dam Rd (Huntington Beach) at Washington. Now here is a place to stop and look since you can't see around the hairpin and it's a five way intersection. But no one does.... until they roll into the middle of the intersection and then stop. Brilliant!

How about doing a survey regarding traffic lights that are routinely run, as in the one at Park Ave. and Woodhull Road. This is a deadly intersection and people run that light all the time.

The 3 way stop at Talmadge Drive and 17th Street in Huntington Station. People actually seem to speed up at the stop sign. We even complained about it to the police. The woman dispatcher actually laughed at us and said everybody passes stop signs.

Happens at Lawrence Hill Road and Carley Ave. Sometimes 4-5 cars in a row cruise right on through. Most of the drivers are on their cell phones.
Gigi Bowman August 16, 2012 at 11:38 AM
Unbelievable. I bet next you'll be telling on your neighbors.
Gigi Bowman August 16, 2012 at 11:42 AM
Oh, and nicholas, it's nice to know there is one sane unzombielike person in Suffolk County. We deserve what we get in this county!
Bobby Jaxx August 17, 2012 at 10:24 PM
Agreed
BK13 September 07, 2012 at 03:02 PM
Oh yeah that's bad, almost as bad as W.22nd and 11th Avenue and Jones Lane and William Street.
BK13 September 07, 2012 at 03:12 PM
Oh yeah I grew up there and that intersection (WRP and CSH Road) was like the wild west in the morning.
BK13 September 07, 2012 at 03:18 PM
It's funny, as I walk to the bus stop with my daughter I see people rolling or speeding through. When I get there, and they see me standing there with daughter and dog, they all jam on the brakes and stop. Peer pressure is amazing I guess? I also yell SLOW DOWN when cars speed down my block. People are just oblivious about that. Now don't get me wrong, I come to ALMOST a complete stop at most stop signs. I have no problem with people creeping through, looking both ways, the whole idea is for SAFETY. I'm talking braking, looking both ways, and then moving on. The people that fly through with no regard for others are the aholes you just want to choke out on the side of the road lol.

looks like a stop light is slated for E. Rogues Path and Bennett Ave... spray painted red/yellow/green... do you know how to find out when this will happen? Everyone runs the stop sign there...
Dan N. March 27, 2013 at 02:09 AM
Vinnie, I live at the east end of E. 23rd, and we have the same problem over here. People rolling right through the stop signs and SPEEDING up and down the block is a big problem. I've called the police to ask if they can set up an electronic speed sign or do something to try to stop the speeders, but they said they will not get involved.

E-Mail..... wnaughton@HuntingtonNY.gov. I sent him an e-mail and within a few days I had a police officer at my door stating he will be at my corner, although he is not always there, because my particular corner is very obvious for a cop car to sit and watch, but since I have sent him my letter, I have seen a couple cop cars in the area. Perhaps if MORE people e-mail him then we will finally have people stopping at stop signs and even better ....not to speed down any of our side streets.

Thanks Mary. We'll try that.
