Getting Into the Holiday Spirit

Updated 12/6  The holidays are right around the corner, and Huntington Patch wants to let you know where to find musical performances, attend a holiday service or donate to a toy drive. But we can't do it alone.

We will periodically update the list but are counting on you to add information in the comments and to our calendar so the whole community can get into the holiday spirit.

Accepting Donations

Family Service League and Tri CYA toy drive. Needs new, unwrapped toys, wrapping paper and $ in order to provide families in Huntington with a joyous holiday. This program allows Huntington parents/guardians to "shop" free of charge for their children. Donations for children birth-13. Donations can be dropped off @ FSL.  Ends Dec. 17.

Halesite Fire Department, Ladies Auxiliary, toy drive, through Dec. 17

Huntington Medical Group, Toy drive.

Schlitt Law Firm, Toy Drive. Ends Dec. 17.

Metric Subaru, Toy drive. Ends Dec. 21.

Walt Whitman Shops, Toy Drive, Dec. 13. WALK radio will be broadcasting live from center court, just across from Santa, and will be collecting new unwrapped toys for the Salvation Army.

Sing the Holidays, 2:30 .m., South Huntington Public Library.

Dec. 6-8

Helping Hand Rescue Mission annual Christmas Boutique  10-4 p.m. Decorations, collectibles, lights, household, vintage holiday jewelry, New Year's outfits, one of kind items.

Dec. 8

11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m., YMCA.

Halesite Fire Department, Free photo with Santa in the sleigh featured in the movie Elf,  2-4 p.m.

Huntington Choral Society, Noel, 8 p.m., Huntington High School

Dec. 9

Chanukah Happening,  11 a.m.-1 p.m., Huntington Jewish Center

Annual "Sounds of the Season" Handbell Concert, 7 p.m., Central Presbyterian Church.

Halesite Fire Department, 11 a.m., children's holiday party. Guests asked to bring a new, unwrapped present. Party features Erik's Reptile Adventures.

South Huntington Public Library, 2:30 p.m., multi-cultural musical celebration of the winter holidays including Christmas, Hanukkah and Kwanzaa featuring Robin Greenstein and Cecilia Kirtland.

Dec. 10

Messiah Sing-Along, Huntington Choral Society, 8 p.m., St. John's Episcopal Church

Dec. 14

Chanukah Celebration, 6 p.m., Temple Beth El 

Dec. 15-16

"Nutcracker," presented by the Lynch Ballet Company, Huntington High School.  Check times.

Dec. 16-17

Old First Church will be holding a traditional Living Nativity production this year. The performances will be held at 7:30 p.m. on the church front lawn (125 Main St. Huntington) followed by light refreshments in Parish Hall. All are welcome.

Dec. 23

Christmas Cantata, 10 a.m., Central Presbyterian Church

Children's Mass, 3:30 p.m., St. Patrick's Church.

Dec. 25

The 27th annual free community dinner, noon to 2 p.m., Gloria Dei Lutheran Church.  "Great food, music, Santa for the kids with gifts, fun and much warmth and fellowship. Call the Church Office to let us know you would like to join us. Would you like to volunteer, please call. 631-271-2466."
