140 South Huntington Homes Lose Power

About 200 customers around Huntington affected by storm.

Update 2 a.m. About 140 homes in South Huntington lost power as the winter storm arrived Friday. Another 60 houses scattered around the town also were out.

The Long Island Power Authority said at 2 a.m. that it was assessing conditions and didn't offer a timetable for restoration of service.

As of 6 p.m., the utility said, "LIPA and National Grid have brought in additional crews in preparation for today’s storm that is projected to be severe. Conditions are expected to worsen later today into tomorrow, with a potential for widespread power outages. Our field force is ready with the supplies they need to restore power as quickly and safely as possible, but dangerous driving and working conditions could delay response times. We expect that most customers who lose power as a result of the storm will have it restored within 24 hours after losing power, but some outages could extend beyond that. If you must be on the road, please keep a safe distance from crews working to restore power."
