Assemblyman Chad Lupinacci (R,C,WF,I-Huntington Station) recently joined members of the Martin Luther King Jr. Commission to honor this year’s recipients of the Public Service Award. Lupinacci presented Jacqueline Harris, Deputy Superintendent of South Huntington School District and Rufus Shepard, teacher at Silas Wood 6th Grade Center with an Assembly Citation in their honor.

“Ms. Harris has devoted her life to the field of education. Her roles throughout the education system show her strong passion for students and families to receive the best possible education that will help guide them to a successful future,” said Lupinacci. “I am also pleased to see that, in addition to being named South Huntington Union Free School District (U.F.S.D) 2013 Teacher of the Year, Mr. Shepard has once again been recognized for his great success as an educator. He has continued to demonstrate his dedication in the classroom, as well as in his community. In receiving this prestigious award, Ms. Harris and Mr. Shepard have demonstrated exemplary character and great commitment to equity, service and ethics. South Huntington School District is lucky to have such valuable educators.”

Other recipients of the Martin Luther King Jr Commission Service Award were Honorable Jon Cooper, past Suffolk County Legislator and Suffolk County Sheriff Vincent F. Demarco.
