Readers' Choice: The Shamrock Voted Best Place for St. Paddy's Day

Irish pub claims second straight Patch choice award.

This week, Patch asked readers to vote for where in town is the best place to spend St. Patrick's Day in Huntington.

After days of voting, readers ultimately selected  as the place to be Irish for a day.

The Shamrock dominated voting with 64 percent of all votes cast. Other contenders like Finnegan's and Finley's of Green Street faired well.

It was the  for The Shamrock which was selected by readers as the best place to get chicken wings in Huntington last month. After more than three decades in Huntington, the pub has built quite a following.

"That's why we tell everybody that we are Huntington's best kept secret," said restaurant owner Kevin Morrison, thankful for the support. "It's nice that people feel the way they do."

"We've been around a long time, 33 years of fans!" said executive chef Joe Russo, Morrison's son-in-law.

Big crowds are expected on St. Patrick's Day.

Russo said Saturday's menu includes Irish specialties such as sheppard's pie, fish and chips, salmon dishes, Irish potato leak soup and traditional corned beef and cabbage.
