L.A. Creative Finishes Brings Fresco

Artist has a touch of Renaissance in murals, decor.

Homes and businesses in Huntington are adding a touch of European art to their locations with work from L.A. Creative Finishes at 330 Nassau Road in Huntington.

"It's different than what you'll find other artists doing because it's a European tradition," Lisa Agosti, owner and artist of the studio that opened two months ago, said. "I tend to use very authentic products, so I get a different feel and a different outcome than if I were using synthetic products."

According to Agosti, synthetic products have a different feel to them.

"It's Old World versus New World. You can get it in faux finish with modern materials but the outcome won't be as authentic."

Her favorite type of work is buon fresco, which she studied in Los Angeles in 2011. Fresco involves pigments applied to wet plaster, and the work has to be done quickly and surely before the work dries and becomes permanent.

"It is the same technique Michelangelo used through Europe in the Renaissance," Agosti said. "It's very immediate and a very different medium to work with, but that's probably what I love about it."

Her work can range from high end to practical, and ranges from working on furniture, murals and more.

"It's difficult to describe what I do," said Agosti, who has been working in the business for 16 years. "In order to see what I do it's important to see
what I have."

Agosti attended the Huntington School of Fine Arts, and then New York University, where she received her BFA in Art and Aesthetics from the Gallatin School of Individualized Study. She has taught at the Huntington School of Fine Arts as well as at Youth Arts Corps when she lived in St. Petersburg, Fla. She has received awards from the Senate, State Assembly, House of Representatives, County Legislature and local representatives for her mural honoring United States veterans of war.
