Huntington Alters HART Routes

Huntington is planning changes on some of the routes followed by Huntington Area Rapid Transit buses.

The changes will take effect Nov. 4.

Among the changes are a restoration of the stop at the Huntington Square Mall on Jericho Turnpike and Larkfield Road on the H10 route, changes in the H20 route to improve service to the Huntington Long Island Rail Road Station, restoration of bus service to Depot Road and direct access to the new Target store on Jericho Turnpike in Huntington Station; and shortened wait times at Laurel and Fort Salonga Roads on the H40 route.

Supervisor Frank P. Petrone said the changes should lead to improved service and reduced waiting times.

The changes on the H20 route are for a 90-day trial period. HART will be seeking comments from the public on those changes.

The alterations come out of the route and schedule changes instituted in January, which were the first major route and schedule changes since the HART began operating in 1978.

“We said at the time that we would assess the response to the new routes and make adjustments accordingly to address current passengers’ desires and to attract new riders,” Petrone said. “These modifications should make HART more useful and more convenient for our passengers.”
