Can't wait for the Patch beauty contest!

I love the boats and I voted for this display. However, in retrospect I think the rules of the competition were unclear. All the other displays consisted of houses decorated with lights which can be viewed as a separate category. Maybe next year there should be two categories, houses decorated with lights, and other Christmas displays.
I saw a very clever display in Orient on Route 25 where a farmer put a small Christmas tree in the back of a mini-tractor. It was illuminated at night and very striking. On Oregon Road in Cutchogue, another farmer had an inflatable Santa driving a large tractor. Also very clever.

Thanks for the helpful feedback on the holiday lights contest, Pat, Sal, Penny, and John. But, once again, we picked the winner based on feedback from readers like yourselves, who took the time to comment before the contest ended. Thanks again and have a great New Year!

You got to be kidding picking the boat display as #1!!!!
Did you see the work that went into the corner house on Lakeside and Morris in Farmingville? I remember looking at it here. And they donate the money they receive to a neo=natal unit.

The house on Sheri Court in Farmingville was the best in the Sachem community, that didn't make the final three either. I was very surprised.

Dear North Fork Friends, Neighbors and Patch Readers... instructions were quite clear - no fine print either! I'm quite happy for the Voekel family and wish them well in the LI competition - less often is more! This winner has captured the essence of the simplicity of North Fork life - hopefully others on LI will appreciate that we are after all on an island and remember their roots.

Agreed! Less is sometimes more and that display was the perfect combination of simplicity and beauty and a wonderful nod to our local traditions and surroundings. Taste is, and always will be, a subjective thing. I think it was a perfect choice!

This is a perfect example of our current voting system. People don't go out and vote but then feel the need to complain over who gets in office.
Remeber this is November folks and get out and vote!!!

I agree with Barbara, very well done.

Just a short thought to get the word out quickly about anything in your neighborhood.
Share something with your neighbors. Write a new post... What's up? Make an announcement, speak your mind, or sell something

Usually cats stay within a few houses of home Sometimes they just hunker down under a neighbor'sRead More shed or deck. He is more likely to come to you at night when there aren't as many lawn mower sounds. Walk around with a can of the stinkiest cat food that you can find. Call to him, and listen for a response. He may answer you with soft meows. Make a trail of stinky cat food to your door and leave the can at the door overnight. Hang up signs with a photo in the neighborhood. Go door to door and tell neighbors to call you if they see him. Kids playing, and dog walkers might spot him. Once you have an idea, of where he is, you can use a have a heart trap to catch him, if he won't come to you. Some cats get so scared when they get out, that they don't recognize their humans. We have had cats disappear for months, before trapping them.

Tuesday about 7am at the intersection of Jericho and 110-I think it was 3 cars with an overturnedRead More silver SUV. Saw it right after it happened-about 7 people were trying to push the SUV upright
Pam Robinson (Editor) June 13, 2013 at 05:13 pm
We've checked with authorities on this and they say there were no major injuries. While we try toRead More get to every serious accident, we're not going to be able to cover everything that happens 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Well it looked bad-glad that the drivers are ok.
