Poetry for the HART: Call for Entries

Calling all teen poets!

The town of Huntington's Public Art Advisory Committee invites teen writers ages 14 to 18 residing or attending school in the town to submit poems which they have written for possible inclusion in Poetry for the HART, a Public Art Initiative Teen Poetry Project.


Winners will receive the following benefits beginning in April 2012 (National Poetry Month):
• Winning poem displayed in interior advertising spaces of HART buses for one year.
• Winning poem published in The Long Islander newspaper.
• Winning poem posted in the Huntington Public Art Inventory on the town's web site.
• Recognition at public reception and opportunity to participate in poetry reading with adult poet mentors.

Those interested must submit six (6) copies of their poem. Poems must be in English between 10 and 30 lines, typed or neatly printed in blue or black ink, and accompanied by a completed entry form with valid address (see below).

Do not include your name on your work, only on the entry form itself. Entries will not be returned.

All poems submitted for the current round of this project must be received no later than Feb. 1, 2012, at the following address. Submissions by fax or e-mail are not allowed. Send submissions to:

An Artist Selection Panel composed of area poets, community youth group leaders, and representatives of the Public Art Advisory Committee will review all submissions and recommend a small selection of poems for participation in this project based on the following criteria:
• Quality and creativity of the writing
• Age of the poet
• Appropriateness of the poem's content for public display
