Benefit for Literacy Gala at Oheka Castle

The Walt Whitman Birthplace Association is holding its 3rd annual Benefit for Literacy Gala at Oheka Castle at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 13.

The event will honor the association's champions of literacy -- Jules Feiffer, author; Daisaku Ikeda, president of Buddhist group Soka Gakkai International; Frank Petrone, Huntington town supervisor; and Thomas Schneider, executive VP of development for Simon Property Group.

The gala benefits The Walt Whitman Birthplace and supports its mission to promote Walt Whitman's legacy and educate visitors of all ages through literacy programs, family events art exhibits and musical performances.

Tickets are $250. Tiered sponsorship opportunities are available ranging from $2,500 to $25,000.

There will be cocktails, hors d'oeuvres, a sit-down dinner, dessert and dancing as well as raffle prizes. Dress is business attire.
