Melville Housing Developing Moving Forward with Lottery

Lottery to be held July 17 for residences in 260-unit, over-55 affordable community

Those seeking an affordable over-55 community residence, take note. 

The Huntington Community Development Agency is accepting applications for people wanting to participate in a July 17 lottery for the 260 residences at the Club at Melville, an affordable over-55 community under construction on Deshon Drive. under construction on Deshon Drive.

The Community Development Agency is administering the lottery, which will consider three separate income categories, in accordance with the requirements of Town Code. The income levels and the sales price for each category are: 80 percent of median income (sales price $211,750; maximum income for a two-person household is $67,800); 120 percent of the median income (sale price $317,750; maximum income for a two-person household is $101,650); and 130 percent of median income (sale price $385,000; maximum income for a two-person household is $120,281). Applications are also being accepted for persons who do not meet the income criteria but who may be offered the opportunity to purchase one of the $385,000 units if any are available, depending on the results of the lottery process.

Anyone wishing to be considered for a units must complete a lottery intake form. The form, guidelines and a cover letter can all be downloaded from the Town’s website. The completed form should be mailed to the Huntington Community Development Agency, 100 Main Street, Room 309, Huntington, NY 11743. Mark the envelope: Attention: The Club at Melville. Only one intake form per family is allowed.

Those whose lottery number entitles them to further consideration will be asked to complete a formal application and provide standard income and asset documentation

To be eligible, the form must be received in the Community Development Agency office on or before 4 p.m. on July 10, 2014, or postmarked by July 10.

The lottery will be held at 9:30 a.m. July 17 at the Cinema Arts Center, 423 Park Avenue, Huntington. Persons do not need to be present at the lottery to participate.

Persons interested in participated are encouraged to contact the developer’s off-site sales office at 516-597-5040 to schedule an appointment for viewing the renderings.
