Downpour Stalls Sidewalk Repair

Sidewalk project in heart of Huntington rained out Wednesday.

Heavy rains may have been a welcome sight for most landscapers Wednesday, but terrible for laying bricks.

Just ask Fred Raffo of R & R Landscaping of Central Islip, who was tasked with repairing a section of brick sidewalk along New York Avenue in the heart of Huntington.

What should be a two-day job will now have to be extended after heavy rain filled a section of sidewalk still waiting for new bricks.

"It was a downpour," Raffo said. "I can't put sand in the joints either."

National Grid contracted R & R Landscaping after finishing electrical repairs under the sidewalk on the southeast corner of New York Ave. and Main St., Raffo said.

The job cordoned off part of the sidewalk and parking along a stretch of five storefronts.

"It should have been a lot simpler," Raffo said.
