CONTEST: Best Locket Inscriptions Win Tickets to See ANNIE on Broadway

“ANNIE’s LOCKET OF LOVE” Sweepstakes asks Patch communities in New York: If you could give a locket to someone you care about deeply, what would the inscription say?

The iconic story of ANNIE is about hope, optimism and love, and there is no better symbol of that than the locket Annie wears around her neck, a token of love from her biological parents to help her get through tough times.

As ANNIE returns to Broadway’s Palace Theatre, organizers would like to give Patch community members in New York a chance to express that same kind hope by creating their own locket inscriptions, with the best entries scoring a chance to win two tickets to see the show.

To enter tell us in 110 characters or less in the comment section below: If you had a locket, who would you give it to and what would it say?

We’ll keep the comment section open through the week, and multiple entries are allowed. Then on Feb. 11 we’ll select the Top 10 submissions and ask users to vote in a Patch poll for the one they think is the best. The writer of the most popular inscription will win tickets to have a "date night" at ANNIE on Broadway.

Tickets can be redeemed at any Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday evening performance of ANNIE from Feb. 14 to March 14.

Good luck. More details about the contest are attached.

If I were to give a locket as a gift, it would be for my daughter, who I refer to as "Little Bird". She was born early and looked like a sickly little bird. She was a tough right the start; we knew we had a very special child who would go far. During elementary school, she broke both her arms. I called her "Little Wing" after a favorite Jimi Hendrix song. She has studied Irish dance for years, and some of the steps make her look as though she were flying; she is so graceful. For those reasons I would inscribe: "Fly high and achieve your dreams."

Be curious but be careful. Be brave but be wise. Be strong but be kind. Above all, be yourself and know that you are loved.

I have a locket from my seventh birthday. I was given to me froma freind whom since moved and we lost touch. I still think of her all the time. Its not what it says, its whom it was given from.
Linda February 07, 2013 at 07:01 PM
I gave a locket to my daughter that reads: Be Brave! Be You! I gave this to her when she started middle school because I feel it is a time when children a faced with so many challenges on a daily basis and they need to be brave enough to handle each situation in the best way for them as individuals. Being themselves is so hard as the teen years start and peir pressure comes into play. Sometimes being themsleves is the bravest thing a teen can do.

Since my daughter Ally could talk (she is 12 years old now)...this is what we say to each other every night before bed...she says she loves mommy & I say I love my Allycat...then we give a big hug and kiss....even if she is not home, we will do this ritual on the phone...I would put this inscription on a locket..."I love you in the morning, evening and all day long...I love you Allycat!"

I have an antique heirloom locket that was given to my great aunt (who helped raise my mom) almost 140 years ago when she was 5 years old. She passed away when I was 8 and my mother gave me the locket for my 16th birthday. I always wear it and get many comments on it. My only daughter (she has 5 brothers!) jokingly says "I get that when you kick the bucket, right?"!!! Maybe I could inscribe it "Babygirl, I'm dead now, it's yours!"...but better (and more appropriate) would be "Babygirl, Love lives on".

NYCitizen "Smile" This is the inscription I include on my kids mp3s, cell phones, other gadgets whenever possible. In the final scene of "Modern Times" movie, when Charlie Chaplin, points to the corners of his mouth, indicating to the girl he is with that she should smile. Although the soundtrack is instrumental, Nat King Cole and Michael Jackson made the lyrics legendary. Smile Smile, though your heart is aching Smile, even though it’s breaking When there are clouds in the sky you’ll get by If you smile through your fear and sorrow Smile and maybe tomorrow You’ll see the sun come shining through for you Light up your face with gladness Hide every trace of sadness Although a tear may be ever so near That’s the time you must keep on trying Smile what’s the use of crying You’ll find that life is still worthwhile If you’ll just Smile

I would give lockets to both my children.  As they face challenges and diversity in their lives I would want them to know they already carry the answers within them, even if it is not the popular choice.  To stand tall with confidence and to choice good over bad.  My inscription would be Believe... Love you with all my heart. Mom
