5 Things To Do This Week

A preview of some of Huntington's happenings.

1. Huntington School Board: The Huntington School Board will meet at 7:30 p.m. Monday at the Jack Abrams School.

2. Cheap Trick at the Paramount: The band makes a stop in Huntington Dec. 8 at the Paramount Theater. Show starts at 8 p.m.

3. A Collage Happening: A creative, instructional and festive evening Friday at the Heckscher Museum of Art. inspired by the museum's "Ripped: The Allure of Collage," exhibition. The evening will begin with an insider's look at the exhibition, followed by a hands-on collage workshop, tastings, and libations.  Create a unique mixed-media work of art. No prior art experience is necessary and all materials are included. Ages 21 and older. Advance registration is required. Admission: Members $20, non-members $25.

4. The Long Island Open and Scholastic Chess Tournament: Check-in and registration 9 a.m. in Grace Auditorium at the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory. Tournament begins at 10 a.m. at Bush Auditorium. Open to all. Admission $50 (must be paid by Dec. 8). Details

5. Holiday Dinner in the Vanderbilt Museum: The event Saturday offers a rare opportunity to dine at a beautiful, landmark American estate and to enjoy an evening from an era when the Vanderbilt family lived at “Eagle’s Nest” and entertained guests that included Hollywood stars, captains of industry and European royalty. Tickets $100.
