Hitting the Pavement for St. Patrick's Run

Huntington Townwide Fund runs bring out competitors and those seeking fun.

A fun run and a competitive four-mile race brought about 400 participants out for the s St. Patrick run Saturday in Huntington.

Dustin Emrani, 26, of Great Neck won overall with a time of 21 minutes, 31 seconds, followed by Brendan Keegan, of Huntington Station at 21 minutes, 34 seconds. 

Runners in the competitive race ranged in age from 7 (Ethan Radecki, who finished 194th) to 78 (Geza Feld of Farmingdale who finished 160th).

A team of girls from Commack won the high school challenge segment of the four-mile race. A family fun run preceded the competitive race.

The run is a benefit for the Townwide Fund, which works with more than 20 Huntington charitable organizations to assist those in need.

Race director could be seen everywhere,  handing out awards and directing runners, volunteers and the crowds.

Thomas Lederer, marketing director for the Long Island Automotive Group which has sponsored the Townwide Fund’s Thanksgiving Race for the past nine years,  and who sounded the horn to start the race, said of the event, "Our Land Rover and Volvo stores are proud to continue supporting the Townwide Fund. In these turbulent times, the Townwide Fund is playing an even more essential role in our community as we all seek that delicate balance between responsible economics and our moral obligation to help the disadvantaged.”

Several Patch editors and sales representatives either participated in the race, covered it or handed out water bottles to thirsty runners as they completed the course. Farmingdale Patch editor Amanda Fiscina, 23,  was 124th of 295 finishers.
