Two men are being held at the Suffolk County jail in Riverside after being caught in Southampton driving in a car that was stolen a week earlier in Huntington Station, according to police.

Southampton Village police said an officer spotted a vehicle Thursday night traveling up North Sea Road with its headlights off and pulled it over on County Road 39. When the officer ran a computer check on the vehicle, it was learned that the 2012 Audi A6 had been reported stolen April 26, police said.

The passenger, Charles L. Stewart, 27, tried to run away, but he was caught after a brief foot chase, according to police.

He and the driver, 28-year-old William Anthony, both of Huntington Station, were placed under arrest.

Stewart was charged with third-degree criminal possession of stolen property, a felony; resisting arrest, a misdemeanor; and unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation. Police said he was also in violation of parole.

Anthony was charged with third-degree criminal possession of stolen property, a felony; and driving while intoxicated and second-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, both misdemeanors.

At arraignment, they were remanded without bail.
