Motorcyclist Injured in E. Jericho Crash

Bike, car collide near Thorney Avenue intersection.

Update: A motorcyclist was seriously injured in a collision with a car Tuesday afternoon on East Jericho Turnpike.

Suffolk County police said a 79-year-old Huntington Station woman was turning into a gas station at 360E. Jericho Tpke. when she struck the motorcyclist.  The 30-year-old man from Huntington Station was taken to Huntington Hospital with head trauma. He’s in critical but stable condition. The woman was not injured.

The man was driving a 1998 Suzuki motorcycle. The woman was driving a 1997 Mercury. Police received the call at 2:23 p.m.

The motorcyclist struck his head on the pavement when he was thrown about 30 feet from the collision with the sedan near the Thorney Avenue intersection, said the Huntington Community First Aid Squad, which took him to the hospital.

Traffic was backed up and diverted in both directions.

Suffolk County Police Crime Scene Unit officers and others were still on the scene three hours later.
