Man Dies After Collapse on NY Avenue

Traffic blocked and rerouted near St. Hugh's Church.

Suffolk County police closed a block of New York Avenue Wednesday afternoon after a man was found lying on the ground across the street from St. Hugh's Church.

Police said he was taken to Huntington Hospital where he died. His death appeared to non-criminal, police said. A witness said the man had collapsed at a bus stop.

The street was blocked about 4;15 p.m. between 9th Street and Pulaski Road in both directions as police checked the scene. Traffic was rerouted onto side streets, including 9th, while police investigated.
