Long Island Children’s Choir to Sing, Uplift at LI Ducks Game

Group to record song live at Saturday's game; the song was commissioned to bring joy to Southold girl with cystic fibrosis.

The Long Island Children’s Choir will record a song they sing live at Saturday's 1:05 p.m. Long Island Ducks vs. York Revolution game at Bethpage Ballpark. The song was composed specifically for 9-year-old Camryn Koke from Southold who suffers from cystic fibrosis.

“While brainstorming a meaningful way to commemorate our first anniversary, another board member mentioned the organization, Songs of Love,” said Dr. Jennifer Shaer, one of the founding members of the Long Island Children’s Choir, and a pediatrician with Allied Physicians Group, which has offices throughout Long Island.

Songs of Love works with dozens of songwriters across the country, customizing songs for children with major illnesses by weaving fun facts about the child into each song.

“Having our children be able to bring joy through song to a local child who was suffering seemed like a beautiful opportunity — and what is even more meaningful is that Camryn is actually my patient,” Shaer noted.

“This incredible gesture was such a surprise — and May is actually Cystic Fibrosis Month,” said Camryn’s mother, Jennifer Koke. “To be invited to a Long Island Ducks game and have her song recorded live is simply just wonderful, and we can’t thank them enough.”

Camryn’s song, made possible by the support of Allied Pediatrics of New York, will then become available for download on iTunes through the LIChildrensChoir.org website.
