Avalon Bay To Signalize Park Avenue Intersection

Traffic lights to be installed at East 5th and Telephonics access driveway.

The Town of Huntington established a trust fund recently for two traffic lights to be installed at intersections with the Huntington Station Avalon Bay development.

Avalon Bay developers will deposit $300,000 into the account to buy and install two traffic lights -- one at the intersection of Park Avenue and East 5th Street and one at the telephonics access driveway. The account will ensure that the monies will remain dedicated to the traffic lights and their maintenance in the future.

The Town Planning Board approved the 379-unit affordable housing development in February. The 26.2-acre parcel of land was rezoned from a single-family housing community.

The town will hold a public hearing on the traffic lights at its next board meeting on Aug. 13 at 7 p.m.

Construction is underway at the site and Avalon Bay representative recently told Newsday that they expect to have the units ready for occupancy by early 2014.
