Man Hurt in Jericho Turnpike Crash

UPDATE A Huntington man was seriously injured in a two-vehicle collision Wednesday morning at the intersection of Park Avenue and Jericho Turnpike.

Suffolk County Police said Thomas Depalo was driving a 2009 Chrysler minivan north on Park Avenue when he attempted to make a left turn onto Jericho Turnpike at 8:24 a.m. He struck a 2008 Volkswagen southbound on Park Avenue.

The driver of the Volkswagen, Nathaniel Eikenes, 22, of Huntington, was taken to Huntington Hospital with serious injuries. Depalo, 37, of Dix Hills, and his two children, ages 4 and 7, who were passengers in the vehicle, were treated and released from Huntington Hospital.

The investigation is continuing. Anyone with information is asked to call the Second Squad at 631-854-8252.

Traffic was backed up along Park Avenue as far north as the Dix Hills Road intersection for more than an hour.
