Update: Crash on Park Avenue Injures 7

Church van and an SUV crash just south of LIRR tracks.

Seven people were injured when a church van collided with an SUV at Fifth Street and Park Avenue Saturday about 10:30 p.m.

Huntington Community First Aid Squad spokeswoman Andrea Golinsky said that five people in the SUV and two in the church van were taken to Huntington Hospital, one with critical injuries.

Both vehicles were severely damaged. The church van was marked with the name of Iglesia Pentecostal Refugio of Huntington Station.

Golinsky said the Huntington Manor Fire Department responded to the crash and that about 50 to 60 emergency personnel were on the scene. 

The Greenlawn Fire Department transported a patient who was critically injured, while the Centerport Fire Department transported one person, and HCFAS took the remaining five.

Two flatbed tow trucks were called to haul away the vehicles and clean up debris, while Suffolk County police worked to divert motorists, several of whom tried to drive through the scene of the accident, which occurred directly south of the LIRR tracks.
