Local fan catches part of Super Bowl victory celebration in the city and some at Huntington diner.

Earlier in the day, Kolderman said as he headed up 59th Street in Manhattan he got caught up in the emotion of the …

Algieri Defeats Smith at Paramount [VIDEO]

St. Anthony’s graduate wins unaminous decision after 8 rounds; remains unbeaten.

Rising boxing star and Greenlawn resident Chris Algieri told the press he'd look to end every fight inside the distance before Saturday's Star Boxing Card at the Paramount. Algieri looked for the knockout early, and found a durable opponent in Atlanta's Curtis Smith (10-5, 5 KO), who had never been stopped. After four lively rounds, Algieri took control of the action, and the fight's pace, and began to operate like a surgeon, outworking Smith to a unanimous decision victory after 8 rounds.  Judges Robin Taylor and Ron Mcnair scored the bout 80-72 for Algieri, and Judge John Mckaie scored the bout 78-74 for the Huntingtonian. Algieri said after the bout that he expects to be back in the ring in March, possibly again at the Paramount.

St. Anthony's Full House on Signing Day

Friars have 30 seniors committed to play sports at the next level, led by nine girls soccer players.

St. Anthony’s senior Olicia Williams is up before the sun running the streets of her native Hempstead and nearby Garden City. Riding along closely behind her in the family Nissan is her father, Keith Williams. The two-mile course through darkened neighborhoods is a ritual father and daughter have abided by three times a week going back since she was 5. “We used to run together,” the elder Williams said. “Then I got a bike. But I couldn’t keep up. So now I drive the car.” “Sometimes people will stop and ask, ‘Is he bothering you?’” Olicia Williams said with a smile. “I say, ‘It’s my dad, it’s fine.’ They think he’s following me.” He was, charting her progress through the odometer, one tenth of a mile at a time. Those predawn workouts …

Did you name your son Eli, get a helmet tattoo on your neck or paint your RV Big Blue? Tell us your stories of ultimate New York Giants fandom.

Sports is about much more than games. It’s about how we celebrate our teams, obsess over athletes, recite statistics and even party. It can dictate what we wear, where we vacation and even who we marry.  The New York Giants face the San Francisco 49ers Sunday at 6:30 p.m. EST (Fox-TV) for the right to play in the Super Bowl. So as we count the days to the NFC Championship Game and recount the improbable, plucky run by the Giants, it’s also time to celebrate our fandom. Everyone has that fan-tastic story: Did you name your son Eli (or Tiki), get a helmet tattoo on your neck or paint your RV Big Blue? Maybe you’re a fourth-generation season ticket holder or proposed to your girlfriend at halftime.  Tell us your stories of ultimate New York …
