Michael A. Connell was born in Huntington before the turn of the century and was raised and educated in Huntington.…More He was a proud veteran of World War I and a accomplished cornet player who played "taps" every Veterans Day at 11 a.m. for all deceased veterans. After the war, he attended the world renowned Dr. Renourd School of Embalming in New York City returning to Huntington in 1923 to establish the M.A. Connell Funeral Home. Connell married a nurse Florence McIntyre in 1930 and in 1931 they built the funeral home at its current location on New York Avenue. The home is now run by his sons John and Peter, and grandsons Michael and Nick Berghela.</p> <p>According to the M.A Connell Funeral Home website, since 1923 the funeral home has become a place "where caring is a family tradition."</p>
