Elby, as a homeowner with no kids in school, I don't mind paying a fair amount of my taxes forRead More school. But the abuse in spending and the way our children score/rank compared to the rest of the world is unjustified. And your solution of "move" is exactly what those who benefit from an entitlement/welfare system that plagues NY would like us to do.
robin May 22, 2013 at 08:33 am
Yes, but the rent they pay goes to a landlord who pays taxes on the property. Every property paysRead More taxes into the pool. so the landlord can pass the buck down to the tennant. And to deny people who don't have children in the district is ridiculous. They live in the community and have a say as well. Obviously people aren't too concerned as only a small percentage of eligable voters even come out to vote anyhow. And i don't get your entitlements statement. Public School isn't something that should be provided? Hey no one wants to pay more for anything. I get that but there were other districts proposing some crazy increases of 7%. Some even tried to pierce the cap.

Yes Janet,,,People that pay rent don't pay property taxes, yet, they are the majority of votersRead More getting to decide on budgets that when passed are being paid by those of us who do pay property taxes.

You need to ask the candidates for the seats in Albany. School Districts are mandated by Albany toRead More make certain expenditures which they provide no tax dollars towards, called unfunded mandates. School districts are also required to limit its tax levy to the community to 2%, an amount that barely, if at all covers the cost of pensions also billed by Albany. So, the no answer does not mean spend, it means raising taxes 2% simply to cover the costs that Albany requires a school district spends.

The reason the checkpoints are south of the village is because that's where 90% of the traffic isRead More headed! Not much more real estate north of Huntington village, is there?
Chris Jones May 20, 2013 at 07:29 am
Also Errol they do checkpoints going east at the YMCA on 25a around Park Ave. I know because I'veRead More been through them. They actually don't do that many in the station. But one of the reasons they do them in the station area is to get the cars going South towards Babylon, the LIE etc.
Errol Menendez May 19, 2013 at 01:48 pm
True there is police presence in the village. i stand corrected and was over reaching a bit toRead More support my statement. But they definitely DO NOT setup DUI checkpoints north of the village.

Hey PB, what business do you run with tenured employees, a defined benefits plan, and health careRead More for life? Yes PB... its so simple... so simple to type a silly statement, like fixing public education finance is simple. The solutions will be long and painful and have to start in Albany.

They do downsize. Just look at the grounds. Grass is a mile because they cut half the grounds crewRead More and the remaining guys spend all day doing sports fields. One administrator salary probably covers three or four grasscutters.
