He should have called the police immediately. But they broke into his house and he had a right toRead More defend himself and his home.
Mehy April 23, 2014 at 05:01 pm
How sad is it that we have become a society inept of judging right from wrong. We also seem toRead More constantly defend criminals and never think about the victims until it hits home. A caring society tries not to label and make other lives miserable. It is obvious that we fail in that also.

someone said something about a trap? unless this guy had a million dollars stacked in 20's with aRead More giant sign over it and his door wide open it wasn't a trap it was a crime. id do the same thing you don't mess with a mans home or his family.

$6 Bil Vanishes From State Dept. Under Hillary Clinton APRIL 07, 2014 In a mind-boggling example ofRead More how the government blows—or perhaps steals—our tax dollars, billions vanished from the U.S. State Department mostly while Hillary Clinton ran it, according to a new alert issued by the agency’s inspector general. Could the former Secretary of State be using the cash to fund an upcoming presidential campaign? In all, $6 billion are missing and it’s highly unlikely any of the money will ever be recovered. The cash was supposed to be used to pay contractors but it just disappeared and documents that could help track the dough cannot be located. How convenient! The paper trail, which federal law says must be maintained in the case of government contracts, has been destroyed or was never created to begin with.

One positive thing? Um... she never became President?

AN ANALYSIS  WORTH READING: by Dick Morris, former political advisor to President Bill ClintonRead More beware as I was there for most of their presidency and know them better than just about anyone, I offer a few corrections; The facts are: Hillary's main extra-curricular activity in law school was helping the Black Panthers, on trial in Connecticut for torturing and killing a federal agent. The facts are:  Hillary interned with Bob Truehaft, the head of the California Communist Party. The facts are:   She flunked the DC bar exam, yes, flunked,  it is a matter of record, and only passed the Arkansas bar. The facts are:  Her main board activity, was to sit on the Wal-Mart board of directors, for a substantial fee. She was silent about their labor and health care practices. The facts are: Her visits abroad were entirely touristic and symbolic and there was no substantive diplomacy on any of them. One cannot think of a single bill Hillary has introduced or a single comment she has made that would tend to strengthen our country in the War on Terror. Think  about it - he's (Dick Morris) said all of this openly, thus if he were not truthful he'd be liable for defamation of  character! And you better believe Hilary would sue him.

Theresa Flora, to that is the most annoying part of obama. i have been called a racist for speakingRead More out against him despite the fact i am pointing out things he has done and nothing to do with race. and he seems to use it as a excuse too which bugs me the most. if hillary uses her female status, it will annoy me even more.
jerry April 23, 2014 at 03:36 pm
All you right wing nuts do is complain yet you do not have one normal candidate to run in 16. I CANTRead More WAIT TILL THE DAY WE HAVE HILLARY CLINTON FOR PRESIDENT.
Theresa Flora April 23, 2014 at 03:48 pm
Tony: the race card? It's beyond annoying. It's disgusting and it's old! How long are ourRead More candidates gonna allow themselves to be classified as racists, bigots and sexists? During Obama's first campaign, the main stream media, the GOP and ultimately, the electorate gave him a pass on his friendship with Jeremiah Wright, the race-baiting, Whitey-hating, anti-Semite. During his second campaign the Left went all-out with the fake Republican "war on women". Not only were they successful in 2014, they'll recycle that strategy soon as Hillary announces. She's not even remotely worried about Benghazi or the fact that she was a do-nothing Senator and Sec of State.

Cops got a chance to play with their toys. Relax people. It's not like you had to respondRead More personally. Stop saying it's a waste of money. Then money is absolutely minimal. These guys were not called away from their golf games. I would also like to compliment the responders for not accidentally killing someone. It showed professionalism and did not add to the "trend" of killing "innocent" people; which is becoming an issues to watch. The people incensed over this should focus their anger on plastic shopping bags as many others are doing over at another great Patch piece. Evil lurks at the checkout counters across America!

Linda Mahoney >> the doorbell prank was just that, a prank, that involved actual self risk,Read More courage and cost nothing to do. these brats today have no respect for wasting resouces whilst sitting ontheir fanny all day.

@Ditty51 - Common Core remains for NY - and rightfully so. NY State has backed out of InBloom, butRead More remains - legally - committed to providing on-line access (portals) for parents and others to be able to see how their children are doing in school. The requirement that an "e file" for each child be created and maintained throughout their NYS education remains on the books. The only change that has happened is now NYS must find another way to support such a system. No real change here.

Theresa sure is a paranoid mental case.
Theresa Flora April 23, 2014 at 04:16 pm

The U.S. Supreme Court on Tuesday upheld Michigan's ban on affirmative action in college admissions.

Black Panther, you assume a lot. So full of hate, who taught you that?...and if I had two shoes ofRead More the same persuasion, they would be "two right shoes." Listen, when that hate boils over, please do us all a favor and take it out on those who saddled you with such...excuses, excuses, excuses.

Black Panther of Poetry? More like the Black Panther of Bigotry.
Grumpy Old Man April 23, 2014 at 04:54 pm
@Black Racist of Poetry - The problem with race relations in this country is well, you. I thinkRead More blacks can achieve whatever they set their minds to, and there are numerous examples of that. It was always a measure of racism, whether real or imagined, to think of blacks as being such superior athletes. The implication of course was that they weren't capable of engaging in intellectual pursuits. Here, I state that a goal of affirmative action is to permit them to engage in intellectual activities and you respond by advocating the stereotype of the blacks as being such superior athletes and musicians. You are a real gem, a real credit to the Black Panthers and racists everywhere. By the way, I wouldn't trumpet the black background of rock and roll. Some of us don't like rock and roll. That doesn't mean we don't acknowledge or admire many black musicians. What's even more funny, or in your case, sick, the musicians you mentioned, Beatles, Presley, all acknowledged their debt to black musicians. You are an insult to every black person in this country who seeks to get ahead for himself and his family and rid the country, no the world, of intolerance.

Don't tell that to Wall Street investments firms, they think it's a great idea to buy investmentRead More properties. Most Americans buy a house to eventually own and rarely ever have enough money to buy a second home .Most retire with a few bucks in their pockets. The typical American has many reasons for buying a house.A man's home is his castle and you can never say that when you are renting , because you always have to answer to the LANDLORD.
Everyday Mathematics is just one of the programs that makes a heck of a lot of $ off of the millions of textbooks sold to schools that teach to the 'Core.' The Common Core isn't just restricting for teachers & students, it's lining people's pockets.
Gary Tobin April 23, 2014 at 04:37 pm
Matt Miller - the key statement you made was, "It's easier for them to learn new things whenRead More they are younger then it is when they're older". If CCSS was an adaptable standard by local school districts, with no copy write or restrictions on adapting the standards to the local school district's needs and there were NO strings attached to them. You have very good points. My parents learned math on a slide ruler, are slide rulers bad, no, they have and had their place. There is so much evidences and facts the FEDERAL GOVERNMENT AND CORPORATE AMERICA are the authors and fuel for the CCSS. When supporters of CCSS do not see these facts their motives and actions toward pushing and supporting CCSS are seriously in question.
Gary Tobin April 23, 2014 at 04:47 pm
National Governor’s Association and the Council of Chief State School Officers are private,Read More no-profit organizations. They are NOT government agencies. Therefore the STATES DO NOT OWN THE RIGHTS TO CCSS.
Matt Miller April 23, 2014 at 04:53 pm
So educational professionals and people that hire these students out of college or high schoolRead More shouldn't have a seat at the table? Who should make curriculum decisions? The local school board member that doesn't know anything about a high quality education? The state government that might think creationism and abstinence only education is still what our children should be learning? I'd rather have the Common Core which brought together education professionals from all of the states to make sure my kids have a leg up when they graduate High School. They also brought in companies that have decades of education or hiring experience. What's wrong with having people that know what they are talking about, setting our policy? I'd rather have professionals making these decisions and not some groups that create facebook pages and youtube videos demonizing Common Core because they don't want to listen to the facts.

Netflix is hands down the best deal going, and it has been a bargain for YEARS. I guess theRead More nonsensical whiners who complain about a long-delayed, $2 a MONTH increase are worried it will cost them a (partial) SINGLE LATTE. Utterly ridiculous.

TO MICHAEL BRENNICK: Leftist, Democra... WHAT? You think Comcast is part of the so-calledRead More "liberal" media (which, by the way, doesn't even exist)? Are you freakin' KIDDIN' me? [shakes head in disbelief] Wow. The FOX NEWS CHANNEL should be held criminally liable for what it has done to your brain.

FOR THOSE WHO LIKE AMAZON PRIME OVER NETFLIX: Here's an interesting article from today (23 Apr 2014)Read More about how Amazon Prime just got HBO to stream at least some of its older content, plus "HBO GO," to Amazon's new Fire TV box, thereby making NetFlix upset because NetFlix (nor any other streaming service, including HULU) has never been able to get any HBO content; and so Amazon has scored a real coup! Should plastic bags be a thing of the past?
Christopher Wendt April 23, 2014 at 03:28 pm
Our "Town", which is the Town of Hempstead, probably lacks the authority to ban plasticRead More bags without State Legislative approval ("Home Rule Message"). I hope that is the case. Plastic bags are very convenient. As is the case with anything we use, considerate and responsible disposal will alleviate any perceived ills from the use of plastic bags.
Lorraine DeVita April 23, 2014 at 03:36 pm
