Hi Emilia How do you know I am Catholic? Making quite an assumption there, aren't you? You're theRead More one who went to Catholic school for 8 years - according to one of your posts. Guess none of the 10 Commandments stuck in your moral fiber.... Remember the one , " Thou shalt not kill ?" Oh, or that one for the new doctors - the Hippocratic Oath ? First of all - Do no HARM ? And you were a history teacher? Glad I wasn't in your dogmatic class where it must have been your way or the highway. You say that Dogfood and I are too emotional?? And then there's you, so very logical, aren't you? Now that you have said you were a history teacher . All I can say is Wow !and you STILL think wars are about religion? Jeez, where did you go to college? Those who don't study the past are doomed to repeat it....as you know, being a history teacher. Still waiting for your comments on the Mother Teresa quotes . Funny, how you just skipped over them. And chose instead to attack my logic with sarcasm? And also my personal story? What's your personal story ? Guess it's not germane to the subject. Mine was - that's why I shared it. And you chose to denigrate it. try looking up Rowe vs Wade and see where those people are now and what they now believe, it's very enlightening .But you don't ever seem to have any background info. The vast majority of abortions are a form of birth control. Don't believe me ? Look it up. You just seem to be really threatened by someone's OPINION ( and that's all it really is - in the scheme of things) that your belief is not a moral one and that it is ok to murder the unborn and you just go on and on....maybe you yourself have had an abortion. I don't know because you have not shared your story and you have every right not to. But I chose to ... And for you to say that the story took the place of logic is sad to me. Because you know that was not the reason I shared it.... So, in closing I have to say that we are all very lucky to have the right to disagree in public forums like this and no secret police are showing up at our doors. I am done sharing my thoughts. Hopefully I have planted some seeds that will take root and maybe just one of the women reading this will change her mind and offer her child up for adoption. And may that child grow up to invent something that will save lives, enrich our minds, ignite a passion in us, etc. And to those of you who got so angry , well I hope I made you at least think about your basic beliefs and I leave you with one last question ..... " what if you are wrong? " Take care everyone . PS I don't even live in Westchester County , and this email from The Harrison Patch just appeared in my email a few days ago. Go figure ......
Emilia July 14, 2014 at 05:18 pm
Ms Carullo: First of all, LEARN HOW TO READ! I never said that I was a history teacher. Actually,Read More I taught high school English. Let me address some of your statements. !) I never said the you were Catholic; 2) I do live by the 10 commandments, contrary to what you believe. You and I have a different opinion about the 5th one, obviously; 3) The Mother Teresa quote is not relevant to me or the issue. There are many wonderful, benevolent women out there who have unselfishly given of themselves, as she did, who don't share her views about "killing a child." And they are not necessarily steeped in such a religious background. You just chose one whose views came from her Catholic upbringing; 4) And again, let me point out that you chose to ignore my comment that you contradicted yourself when you said that, "Women should be responsible for their own bodies." That is faulty logic on your part. By the way, thank you for saying that I am "so very logical." I strive to be logical and, unlike you, I realize that my personal story is not relevant to the issue at hand. Lastly, I find it scary to think that you are any kind of teacher, the way you ramble on with emotional baggage and issues personal to you, infusing religion into debates where it does not belong, and throwing logic to the wind. I sincerely hope that you kept religion out of your classroom, if you teach in a public school.

LOL! Must be a whole lot of medical emergencies every day, every minute, eh? What is thisRead More "self-righteous" crap? Going over 80 MPH is just plain dangerous. You're quick to call others "self-righteous". But what about your attitude? Entitled. Speed-addicted? Affluenza? Enough name-calling. Let's find some common ground that's also safe to everyone on the road. Job pressures, productivity demands, stressful commutes, economic stress. We are all pressured. Don't take it out on each other. Give the 99% a break and tax the Koch Brothers and their ilk. Then maybe we'd all be a little more relaxed.
Sean Hassett July 17, 2014 at 12:08 am
I have many times been behind someone in the left lane driving below, sometimes way below, the speedRead More limit. On passing, I have seen them on the phone, texting, reading a book, looking at a map, all sorts of crazy stuff. So yes, NY should have a slow-poke law. I drive I-95 often and CT should also have a slow-poke law. The left lane should only be for passing slower traffic, not passing the time of day. In places where there are only two lanes, plan ahead when coming to an on-ramp, move over to the left to allow traffic to enter, then move back when it's safe. Never drive below the speed limit in the left lane.
Steve Green July 18, 2014 at 11:19 am
Yes, Sean, I totally agree. The oblivious slow driver in the left lane is an obnoxious danger to allRead More other drivers. Another one: the obvious drunk driver who insists on staying in the left lane. Why? Isn't he/she just drawing more attention and possible arrest? But these are anecdotes. The bottom line is: we don't care very much about each other any more. Why do narcissists park in No Parking/No Standing zones, creating a traffic problem, when plenty of spots are readily available? There's a much bigger social/cultural issue here; we're all just complaining about the symptoms.

This is a very emotional topic. I personally would like to see it happen but I am not up to aRead More fight. If it is turned down I hope we see the same result when a target or lowes gets put in there. The unfortunate reality is that this beautiful piece of undeveloped land will be sold and something will be built on it. If it is not going to be a park I would like to see a pretty development build by proven developers. I also do believe we need more housing for 55+ on Long Island.
breetai3 June 19, 2014 at 12:34 pm
I think it's a bit crazy to fight this development. SOMETHING is going to wind up there, so why notRead More have the best possible option: a community that generates tax revenue, has NO impact on schools, and is probably one of the best options for traffic as the elderly tend not to drive as much as others.
Long Island Lover June 19, 2014 at 01:20 pm
No Lowes or any other commercial business would be put up if everyone just stays the course. TheirRead More attorney likes to paint a picture that is ridiculous. The are is zoned for the dairy plant that is currently there. Otherwise, 1 acre lots for residential housing. That's it. End of story. Why is this such an issue? A senior living community does not mean the people won't drive. It means that anyone 55 and older can live there. How many people do you know that are 55 and don't drive? They can also have there 22+ year olds living with them. This should not be just about the traffic which is horrendous at best. This should be about maintaining a quality of life in an area that is zoned appropriately to maintain that quality of life. Need more tax money? How about stopping the unnecessary spending, combining school districts and doing away with all the redundancy that can only be found in the government sector. I just had an incident in my neighborhood where an elderly person fell. Why did he need 3 police officers to show up? 1 officer and the paramedics should have been enough. Crazy to fight? I think it would be crazy to lie back and have yet some other idiotic nonsense shoved down our throats. This is big business. All they want to do is make money off our quality of life. The developer does not have your best interest in mind or they would build something like this in their community.

EG - I don't know how toxic the brine is or isn't but as with any new technology the regulators areRead More usually WAAAAAY behind the industry. Is it just coincidence that some of the states with the highest fracking rates are now experiencing earthquakes at levels NEVER seen Before? Or the amount of methane gas allowed to escape into the atmosphere that you breath because there's no infrastructure in place to capture the gas? What happens when that shale is fracked and is removed? What fills the void? The brine they are dumping into those wells? The gas that they are not capturing sometimes ends up in drinking water. That's a fact!! With our only source of water the aquifer what would happen if that was poisoned by the crap they are taking out from the wells after they frack the shale? No energy company wants to tell you the truth as long as they are making a pretty penny from it.
