Town of Huntington—Departments and Committees

Town Supervisor

Frank P. Petrone is the town supervisor and he can be contacted at 631-351-3030.

  • The town supervisor works in the capacity of chief executive officer, chief fiscal officer and head of the administrative branch of the town government, and is also a member of the town board.
  • The town supervisor is responsible for submitting an operating and capital budget annually to the Town Board.
  • In addition, he prepares the agenda for Town Board meetings and presides over all town board meetings.

Superintendent of Highways

William Naughton is the superintendent of highways for Huntington. He can be reached at 631-351-3076 or wnaughton@town.huntington.ny.us.

  • The department maintains and rehabilitates all town highways.
  • To that effect, the department has an annual roadway rehabilitation program, on-going maintenance and pothole repair service, snow and ice removal and control, drainage and flood control service, and road sweeping service.
  • The highway office also provides services, such as Adopt-A-Highway Program, drainage construction and control, pothole repair, tree planting and removal.

Audit & Control

The Department of Audit & Control is located at 100 Main St. and can be reached at 631-351-3038 or audit@town.huntington.ny.us.

  • Tracy Yogman serves as the director and comptroller of the town of Huntington.
  • The department aims to provide financial management information and legally required audit functions to the chief fiscal officer and the town board.
  • The department manages three divisions namely the Comptroller, Payroll and Purchasing.

Building & Housing

The Building and Housing Department is located at 100 Main St. and can be reached at 631-351-2822.

  • The building division is responsible for the administration of building permit processes and ensures that construction activity complies with state and local code requirements.
  • The division also reviews building and site plans, issues building permits and occupancy certificates in addition to inspecting building construction activity.

Office of Citizen Services

The Office of Citizen Services is located at 100 Main St. and can be reached at 631-351-3112 or citizenservices@town.huntington.ny.us.

  • The goal of the citizen service department is to facilitate community access to the town government.
  • Department staff also serves as liaisons for the town board to various town citizen advisory committees, civic associations and community groups.
  • The office supplements the town's public relations by providing the community with information from members of the town council.

Engineering Services

The Department of Engineering Services is located at 100 Main St. and can be reached at 631-351-3151.

  • The department promotes public safety and welfare by supervising public works projects and private construction activity in the town.
  • The Department is comprised of the following divisions:
    • Engineering Division: It supervises all public infrastructure projects.
    • Building Division: It administrates the building permit process and ensures compliance of all building construction with state and local code requirements.
    • Fire Prevention Bureau: It issues permits for fire alarm, fire sprinkler, and fire suppression systems in addition to managing fire safety education program.
    • Dix Hills Water District: It is a public water supply district and is responsible for delivering high quality drinking water to residents and businesses in the Dix Hills section of Huntington, and maintaining 15 water supply wells, 160 miles of pipe, and approximately 1300 fire hydrants.

Environmental Waste Management

The Department of Environmental Waste Management is located at 100 Main St. and can be reached at 631-351-3186.

  • The department manages programs and policies pertaining to the collection, transportation and disposal of waste material within the town.
  • It is also in charge of the township's waste-water treatment plant, two sewer systems, closed landfill at East Northport, the resource recovery facility, the recycling center and a hazardous household waste facility.

Department of General Services

The Department of General Services is located at 100 Main St. and can be contacted at 631-351-3015 or genservices@town.huntington.ny.us.

  • The department is in charge of routine and emergency maintenance repairs of most town-owned facilities including the town hall, Village Green complex, town parks, golf courses, historical cemeteries, parking lots, town vehicles and equipment.
  • Services provided by the department include carpentry, plumbing, electrical work, and grounds maintenance.
  • In addition, it also operates central stores, copy and print center, telecommunications, pager service, HVAC, and mail-messenger service for the town.

Historian

Robert C. Hughes is the town historian of Huntington and can be reached at 631-351-3244 or huntingtonhistorian@verizon.net.

  • The town historian's office is located at Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Building, 228 Main St.
  • The town historian coordinates the town's historic preservation efforts, serves as secretary to the Historic Preservation Commission, advices the town supervisor and town board on matters pertaining to historic interest.
  • The town historian also acts as liaison with the town's numerous historical organizations ensure continued preservation of Huntington's heritage.

Department of Human Services

The Department of Human Services is located at 100 Main St. and can be reached at 631-351-3021 or humanservices@town.huntington.ny.us.

  • The department is responsible for administrating the town's 'Human Services' programs in an effort tomeet the needs of area residents.
  • The department through its various divisions offers programs, information, support and advocacy for senior citizens, veterans, handicapped people, and women.
  • It is comprised of the following divisions:
    • Senior Citizens Division
    • Handicap Services
    • Minority Affairs
    • Women's Program
    • Veteran's Affairs

  • Maria Georgiou is the executive director of Huntington Youth Bureau and can be reached at 631-351-3061 or hybydri@optonline.net.
  • The bureau promotes the growth, development and well being of all youth in Huntington.
  • The bureau also includes community youth agencies, such as Tri Community and Youth Agency, Youth Directions and Alternatives, and REACH Community and Youth Agency.
  • It also manages community projects including Huntington Drug and Alcohol Services, Excel, Youth Court and Sanctuary to name a few.

Department of Information Technology

The Department of Information Technology is located at 100 Main St., and can be reached at 631-351-3161 or infotech@town.huntington.ny.us.

  • The department assists the town administration in management and maintenance of all computer systems used to automate clerical, administrative and management tasks.
  • It aims to ease access to information, reduce communication costs and provide access to multiple computer systems for all town departments and divisions.
  • The department administrates and maintains the town internet, intranet and network based resources including hardware, software and other devices.

Department of Maritime Services

The Department of Maritime Services is located at 100 Main St. and can be reached at 631-351-3192 or maritime@town.huntington.ny.us.

  • The department maintains and manages all of the town's waterfront facilities including beaches, parks and marinas.
  • It also administrates all on-water activities like mooring, channel markers, and boating safety.
  • It is the responsibility of the Department of Maritime Services to protect, restore and enhance the town's marine and coastal environment.
  • The department comprises of three divisions namely:
    • Division of Marine Conservation
    • Division of Waterfront Management
    • Division of Marine Enforcement

Parks & Recreation Department

  • The recreation department is responsible for facilitating recreational programs and activities in Huntington.
  • The department oversees the operations of all divisions of Dix Hills Park, beaches, Crabmeadow Golf Course, fee classes, playground and developmentally disabled programs.
  • The division of cultural affairs acts as the town's liaison to the public to plan and promote the all forms of arts to its residents.

Division of Personnel

The Division of Personnel office is located at 100 Main St. and can be reached at 631-351-3026.

  • The division of personnel assists the supervisor, town board and the directors of the other departments maintaining the approved levels of staffing with the most qualified employees.
  • The division enforces adherence to labor laws and acts as a facilitator in the resolution of any labor disputes.
  • It also provides employment information and record keeping services to the town, and the unions that represent the employees.

Planning & Environment

  • The department provides support for planning and land-use decisions that enhances the character and quality of life of the community residents.
  • It reviews applications and creates records for land-use decisions.
  • The department in addition to maintaining the town geographic information system also works closely with the Open Space Committee.

Department of Public Safety

  • The department of Public Safety is comprised of the following divisions:
    • Code Enforcement Division
    • Security Division
    • Animal Control Division
    • Special Services Division
  • The department is responsible for most of the enforcement and security activities within the town.
  • It enforces state and local laws and regulations, and responds and investigates complaints filed by the citizens.

Purchasing Division

The Purchasing Division is located at 100 Main St. and can be reached at 631-351-3177 or purchasing@town.huntington.ny.us.

  • The division assists the town's operating departments to purchase goods and services required to carry out their various responsibilities.
  • The division conducts hundreds of sealed bids and requests for proposals and administers the creation of more than 7000 purchase contracts.

Town Attorney

John J Leo is the Town Attorney for Huntington and can be reached at 631-351-3042 or attorney@town.huntington.ny.us.

  • The town attorney represents the town board and the board of trustees and all the government officials in proceedings, undertakings and activities in which the town is involved.

Town Clerk

  • The town clerk is the secretary to Town Board and Board of Trustees, and attends all town board meetings in addition to maintaining minutes, legal notices, certifications of Town records and filing of change of zone applications.
  • The town clerk is the commissioner of licenses and issues pet licenses, hunting and fishing licenses, marriage licenses, and disability parking permits
  • The town clerk serves as registrar of vital statistics issuing and recording birth and death certificates.
  • Additionally, the clerk also acts as commissioner of elections for special elections held within the town.
  • The town clerk is also records management officer with the Records Center and archives under her jurisdiction.
  • As marriage officer for the town of Huntington, the town clerk has the authority to perform civil marriage ceremonies.

Department of Transportation and Traffic Safety

The Department of Transportation and Traffic Safety is located at 100 Main St., and can be reached at 631-351-3053 or traffic@town.huntington.ny.us.

  • The department administrates the design and installation of street lighting and traffic control devices including traffic signals, signs and pavement markings.
  • It is also responsible for planning aspects of the town's HART bus system, including bus routes and schedules.
  • The department's work is related to the concerns of town residents in matters pertaining to traffic safety measures in the community.

Environmental Open Space and Park Fund Review Advisory (EOSPA) Committee

The EOSPA Committee serves as the advisory committee to the town board for expenditure of environmental open space and park funds.
