Founded in 1920, The Heckscher Museum of Art's collection spans more than 500 years of Western art, with particular emphasis on the 19th and 20th centuries.The museum's initial 185-piece collection was a gift from August Heckscher. The museum's holdings now number more than 2,100 pieces by American and European artists, including American landscape painting and work by Long Island artists, past and present, and modernists works.
