After she conquered the Black Sea and Caucuses Area , Catherine the Great set out to tour her newly annexed territory. Her lover, Count Grigory Potemkin set out before her tour and erected facades to cover the hovels and shacks that a good number of Catherine's new subjects lived in, so that the Empress would not see the truth about how her people lived. Today, a Potemkin Village is a figure of speech that when used most often refers to a cover up by a government or politician so that we, the electorate will not really see the truth about how poorly something is working. We, the American citizenry are being shown a Potemkin Village about our economy. Government can not spend us out of the economic doldrums, government can not continue to devalue our currency by printing paper money that buys less and less. Government can not continue to tax and overspend. Government must tear down its Potemkin Villages so that we the voters have an accurate picture of where we are and what we have to do to fix our situation. Government can not continue to elect career politicians, many of whom have never drawn a paycheck other than a government paycheck. America can out produce anybody when She is unshackled and on a level playing field with the rest of the world. It is time to tear down our Potemkin Villages.
