Whitman Girls Basketball Falls to Deer Park

The Whitman girls basketball team sparred with the Deer Park Falcons for most of four quarters before succumbing 65-55 Thursday.

Deer Park trailed 43-42 at the start of the fourth quarter but its tenacious defense and clutch shooting enabled the Falcons to pull away.

Heroes: Deer Park's Shayna Robinson had a game-high 28 points and led the charge in the fourth quarter. Alexandra Leftridge was the high scorer for Whitman with 19.

Turning Point: Whitman's failure to score after they closed to within 6 at 61-55 with 57.5 seconds left.

Bottom Line: Both teams played well and are fairly evenly matched. Deer Park raised its record to 3-0 with the win while Walt Whitman fell to 2-1.

Key Stat: Robinson was 5-for-5 at the free throw line with 10 two-point goals and 1 three-pointer. Deer Park made a total of 13 of its 16 free throw attempts while Whitman made 9 of its 14.
