Whitman Boys Lacrosse Handles Riverhead

Wildcats remain unbeaten early on this season.

The Whitman boys lacrosse team defeated Riverhead 18-5 Monday to remain perfect for the season.

With the scored tied 3-3 after the first quarter, the Wildcats (4-0) broke the game open in the second quarter. By halftime, the score was 10-3.

Consistent scoring and a stingy defense in the second half helped to remained in control enroute to a 18-5 win. Coach Bob Howell said his squad's teamwork was the key to victory  — and the unbeaten start.

"I'm really excited with the group of kids that we have this year," said Howell. "It's not an individual type of team we have." 

Howell said the win over an "athletic" Riverhead team (2-3) that "never quit" was satisfying, but the Wildcats must step it up against Sachem East later this week to keep their streak alive.

Leading the scoring for Whitman was Michael Chimenti and Mitchell Bermudez with four goals each. Vincent Colapinto contributed three goals. Christian Rovet scored twice with two assists. Evan Zakow had one goal and five assists. 

Whtman plays at home against Sachem East Wednesday at 11 a.m.
