Whitman Advances to Gugliotta Final

Junior Kevin Forland leads Wildcats to victory Tuesday.

Whitman defeated Hauppauge 63-31 in the opening round of the Frank Gugliotta Memorial Basketball Tournament on their home court Tuesday.

Ahead 22-0 at the end of the first period, never trailed in the game.

The leading scorer for the Wildcats was junior Forward Kevin Forland with 15 points. Whitman senior Danyal Cheema had 14 points, followed by Peter Wildman with 8 points. Larry Tillman and Adrian Quick contributed 6 points, according to a press release from the South Huntington School District.

St. Dominic’s defeated Jericho in overtime 56-55. Leading scorers for St. Dominic's were: Kieran Ryan with 19 points, Darren Chew with 15 points and Tommy Smith who scored 11.

Whitman will face St. Dominic’s in the championship final at 7 p.m. Thursday at Whitman.
