Whitman was oh, so close to something special a year ago.
The Wildcats boys lacrosse team played rival Smithtown West tight for four quarters, but ultimately fell, 8-7, in the first round of the Suffolk Class A playoffs.
That wrapped up a 10-7 season. Several talented players return for Coach Bob Howell, including senior midfielder Mitchell Bermudez and senior attack Ian Zakow.
