St. Anthony's Tops State Lacrosse Rankings

Friars boys and girls lacrosse teams in Top 10 of latest NYSSWA rankings.

On the strength of its impressive win over the No. 2 team in the nation, St. Anthony’s girls lacrosse jumped to the top spot in the latest New York State Sportswriters Association rankings.   

The Friars knocked off previously unbeaten St. Stephen's and St. Agnes School (Alexandria, Va.), 9-8, on Saturday. Monday’s rankings saw the Friars jump from third in the state to No. 1 in the Class A rankings.   

Long Island dominates Class A: Farmingdale (3), Bay Shore (4), East Islip (8), West Islip (9), Ward Melville (10), Half Hollow Hills (11), Northport (12), West Babylon (14) and Massapequa (15) round out the top 15.  

Chaminade fell to Yorktown, 12-8, Saturday. That cleared the way for Ward Melville (11-0) to vault to No. 1 in the latest boys lacrosse state Class A rankings. Chaminade is No. 2 while St. Anthony’s (7), Smithtown East (11), Massapequa (12), Syosset (13), Northport (14) and Smithtown West (15) round out the top 15.

The NYSSWA also released the latest Long Island boys lacrosse rankings, compiled by Farmingdale Coach Bob Hartranft. Here is the Suffolk County Top 10:

3. St. Anthony’s (7-2)
4. Comsewogue (11-1)
5. Smithtown East (10-1)
6. Northport (10-2)
7. Smithtown West (10-2)

10. Miller Place (9-2)
