St. Anthony's Girls Lacrosse Faces No. 1

Friars score 22 goals against nationally-ranked Maryland school; face No. 1 McDonogh (Md.) today.

A season that began with the girls lacrosse team as the nation’s top-ranked school in the ESPN Rise rankings comes full circle at 10 a.m. Saturday when the No. 5 Friars face No. 1 .

St. Anthony’s Friday by jumping on No. 12 Good Counsel (Olney, Md.) early to earn a 22-8 win. Like the Friars, Good Counsel also spent time at No. 1 earlier this season.

It highlights a roller coaster lacrosse season for St. Anthony’s. With 14 college commitments, the Friars were a strong preseason No. 1. Then St. Anthony’s lost its spot atop the rankings after falling to Garden City, 11-10, in double overtime on April 2.

Since then the Friars have outscored opponents, 135-56. That offensive prowess was on display against Good Counsel. Duke-bound All-American Kerrin Maurer had five goals and junior Chrissy Schreiber added four as the Friars led 14-2 after one half.

The Friars have to come back Saturday and play No. 1 McDonogh, their most important game to date.
