Soccer Teams Gear Up for Tournament

Clubs from around the region head for Renzulli Labor Day tournament in Huntington.

About 270 teams from around the tri-state area will be competing this weekend in the 35th annual Peter Renzulli Labor Day Tournament across fields scattered across the Town of Huntington.

But before Saturday's kickoff, teams had to register and so coaches, volunteers, parents and players packed a room Thursday night at the Huntington Hilton to complete their paperwork.

Bill Rudy, president of the host HBC Soccer Club, said that more than 1,000 games will be played, benefiting scholarship and other programs. "We do a lot of stuff," he laughed as coaches and parents swirled around the room.

Games run Saturday and Sunday and will be played at Breezy Park in Huntington Station, Stimson Middle School in Huntington Station, Half Hollow Park, Suffolk Y JCC in Commack, Veterans Park in East Northport, Caledonia Park in Dix Hills and West Hills Middle School in Melville.

Schedules and locations are on the HBC website.
