Huntington Wrestlers Eye States

Two Blue Devils win Suffolk individual titles, advance to state meet.

The state wrestling championships are this weekend in Albany. And as usual, a Huntington grappler will be there in a Blue Devils singlet.

The Blue Devils have a wrestling tradition few high school programs in the state can match. Nigel McNeil became the 26th state champ in school history in 2011.

The latest teenagers looking to become Huntington immortals have the moxie to make it happen: 99-pound freshman John Arceri, 220-pound senior Nick Lupi and 285-pound junior Anthony Puca.

Arceri earned a 9-3 decision over Eastport-South Manor’s John Busiello to win his first Suffolk crown Feb. 13. Lupi decisioned Sachem North’s Steven Mills, 3-2, to earn his title. Puca was pinned by Smithtown West's Mike Hughes in the final.

The state Federation Division I tournament begins Friday at the Times Union Center.
