'Called Up: A Lacrosse Story' Author at Book Revue

Long Island lacrosse coach Don McDuffee will speak about and sign his new book, "Called Up: A LaCrosse Story," at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 15, at Book Revue.

A fictional story of lacrosse, one of the most up and coming sports in recent years. Johnny and Kenny, avid lacrosse enthusiasts, have been living, loving, and playing lacrosse since childhood. Johnny, focused and skilled at face offs, is working to perfect all aspects of the game. Kenny, the goal scorer, is a phenom on the field.

As their skills improve, they are called up for the JV team, as 8th graders. Following the ups and downs of lacrosse, this story is the perfect mimic for many of Long Island’s current lacrosse enthusiasts.

McDuffee’s book contains language both serious athletes and newcomers alike can understand. He balances tactical information and drill routines with humor and a discussion of “flow” which so many young “laxers” will appreciate.

McDuffee touches upon the pressures faced by young athletes and the looming college application process. However, ultimately he sheds light on the sport’s ability to empower its players. “I wanted to transcribe my love for the sport and share a story that would motivate young athletes,” he said.
