Huntington Woman Takes 5k Warriors Race

A Brooklyn man took first-place in this year's Run for the Warriors on Sunday in the Town of Babylon, finishing the race in under 35 minutes.

The sixth annual race around the town through Lindenhurst and West Babylon took place Sunday morning, with over 3,000 athletes signed up to participate in either the 5K or 10K races.

Brooklyn's Angel Confesor, 29, finished the longer 10K race at 34:49, besting other runners by nearly 50 seconds. Nicole Unger, 26, of Great Neck, finished the 10K at 42:19, besting the rest of female competitors by over three minutes. She finished 21st overall.
Andrea Nerlich, 37, of Huntington, finished the 5K first for women at 23:07, just ahead of 43-year-old Dorene Keach, of Bay Shore, by a mere second.

A 10K race is roughly equal to 6.2 miles.

Ian McClosky, 33, of Glen Cove led the 5K runners with a time of 17:50, beating the next two men in line – 15-year-old Cabel McCandless (17:54) and 17-year-old Nick Morfesi (17:56) – by only seconds.
