Barclays Tourney Seeking Volunteers

PGA event set for August at Bethpage Black Course.

Volunteers are needed for The Barclays Tournament in August, the first event in the PGA Tour playoffs for the FedExCup.

The tournament is scheduled for – Black Course Aug.21-26.

Volunteers are required to work three six-hour shifts on their respective committees. When registering online, volunteers will be asked their preferred days and times. Committee assignments vary, from corporate hospitality to standard bearer to transportation, and most, though not all, committee spots are still open.

There's a $65 fee for the volunteer package, which includes a badge, which is good for the entire week of the tournament, even when not volunteering, a week-long guest badge, a logo’d golf shirt, a logo’d hat, lunch vouchers on days working and an invitation to the volunteer appreciation party. The PGA says the package is worth more than $300.

The volunteers' fee allows it to donate to Long Island charities by offsetting tournament costs. The Barclays has donated more than $38 million to charity, the PGA said. It hopes that the support of volunteers will result in even more funds raised for the community around the area.
