YMCA to Offer Half-Day Kindergarten Classes

Agreement reached with Temple Beth El to offset recently cut Huntington School District classes.

The Huntington YMCA announced today it will offer four half-day kindergarten classes at Temple Beth El beginning next school year.

The plan was developed in response to a recent measure by the Hunington school board which cut kindergarten class days in half.

Registration begins June 28 for up to 120 students — 60 in the morning and 60 in afternoon classes, according to Eileen Knauer, executive director of the Huntington YMCA.

Knauer said their was limited space available at the YMCA, so she has been working for awhile to reserve a site to offset the school board cuts.

"A lot of what we do is really in response to what the community needs, so this is a good example of that," said Knauer. "We are providing the other half of the day."

Cost for the classes is $395 per month. Tuition assistance is available for those who qualify. To sign up, or for more information call (631) 421-4242.
