Whitman High School graduated its Class of 2013 Friday night, sending the young graduates off with advice for the future and a reminder of the last year's many trials.
Whitman principal Kathleen Acker recalled the many challenges of the class's senior year, from the damage caused by Hurricane Sandy to the blizzard and the disruptions to the school schedule. And, she noted, this year's class faced the toughest demands from new testing standards.
Salutatorian Matthew J. LoCastro and valedictorian Sarah Ann Riordan addressed the crowd and class, as did Board of Education president Jim Kaden and Superintendent David Bennardo.
Though skies were gray and wind whipped the robes of graduates, the rain held off and allowed the ceremony to finish outdoors.
