Update: Wind Cuts Power to Huntington Homes

National Weather Service warns of snow throughout the night.

A cold, windy blast of rain with a mix of snow began falling on Huntington Saturday, knocking out power to nearly 300 homes from Huntington Bay to Huntington Station.

The National Weather Service predicted the area would receive 2 to 4 inches of snow. It  warned of high winds, increasing through the evening, up to 65 MPH. The service said downed trees and power outages could occur where snowfall accumulates, and said travel conditions throughout the night could be dangerous.

Winds with gusts up to 55 mph caused 780 homes in Northport to lose power earlier Saturday, according to LIPA's online outage map.

The foul weather has sent in Plainview and to the hospital today for signs of hypothermia during outdoor games, and forced two big postponements in the area. St. Anthony's officials pushed back its football game with CHSFL rival Iona Prep from Saturday night to Sunday at 1 p.m., and the West Islip game at Northport was halted at halftime with no word yet on when the game will be resumed.
