State Issues School Report Cards

Data shed light on test results and much more about 2 districts.

Huntington and South Huntington schools showed mostly steady improvements  in "report cards" issued Friday by the state Education Department.

The reports are treasure troves of data, detailing test results in English language arts, mathematics and science, graduation rates, staff certifications, classroom size, teacher turnover rates, attendance and suspension figures, ethnic and racial breakdowns and more.

Even where schools or grades for the two districts have slipped, they usually surpass the scores of most public schools around the state. But some schools continue to show weaknesses or shortfalls for certain subgroups of students who are not making the minimum standards set by the state.

Administrators were not immediately available for comment for either district as they prepare budgets expected to be hit hard by state aid cuts.
