Now in its third year, funding for the Excel program in South Huntington is made available through a grant by the Suffolk County Department of Labor, according to Harris. For the first time this year, three days of training was required by the students before they started on their job sites.

"Every year we get better and every year the kids get better," said Harris, regarding the program recognized as a model by the New York State Department of Labor.
