School's In at Parent University

District's second annual program offers expert advice through workshops.

Workshops on such topics as cyberbullying, college preparation and math games brought about 200 people to Parent University at Whitman High School last week.

The district offered 37 workshops, according to deputy superintendent Jackie Harris, designed to help parents help their children of various ages.

Suffolk County police, drug and alcohol and mental health experts and others all offered advice.

Other sessions explained Common Core standards, covered financial literacy, study habits and college applications.

Participants praised the organization of the event, the second year the program has been offered.
