Voters to Decide on School Budgets, Candidates

Polling set Tuesday at high schools.

Voters will be choosing  trustees and deciding the fate of their school budgets Tuesday in Huntington and South Huntington.

In South Huntington, voters will be asked to approve a $147 million budget, which represents an average tax increase of $306.37 for homeowners. On the ballot are incumbents Nick Ciappetta and Laura Carey and challenger Cameron Williams, competing for two seats.

In Huntington, a budget of $114,707,235 is up for a vote, representing a 2.55 percent increase over this year's budget. In addition, two building improvement measures, one to establish a new building improvement fund and another to release monies held in the current building improvement fund, are also up for a vote.

Four candidates are competing for two seats being left vacant by John Paci and Rich McGrath, who both decided not to run again this year. The candidates are former board president William Dwyer, Jennifer Mosden, Bari Fehrs and Deniqua Crichlow.

Polling is open in the Huntington district from 6 a.m. until 9 p.m., at Huntington High School.

In South Huntington, voters can cast ballots from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m., at Whitman High School.
