School Board Notes

In addition to debating the budget and how to ensure the safety of Huntington students, the board took actions at its Monday, March 15 meeting.

Huntington School Board members have approved overnight field trips to the Greenkill Outdoor Environmental Center in Huguenot, New York for 140 Woodhull School and 120 Jack Abrams School sixth graders. The separate trips will be chaperoned by 24 adults.

Donations Accepted
Tanya Williams of Epson America, Inc. has donated four brand new multi-media projectors for use at Jack Abrams School. "Ms. Williams works for Epson America in the marketing and communications department and has a nephew at Jack Abrams School," Assistant Superintendent David H. Grackin said.

District resident Gail Lodge donated an armoire for use by the high school drama club for costume storage.

Mr. Grackin termed the gifts "very generous donations" and school district trustees agreed when they accepted them last Monday night.

Budget Transfers
Trustees signed off on three budget transfers, shifting money from one code to another to cover costs associated with an additional stipend for the high school video club advisor ($2,105), bilingual speech screenings at kindergarten registration ($500) and buses provided through Eastern Suffolk BOCES for Blue Devil marching band trips ($19,210).

Disposal of Equipment
Trustees approved placement of 40 items on the district's surplus bid list for the purpose of disposal. The items range from a snow blower, floor buffer, compact disc changer and table saw to a Baldwin piano, overhead projector, two IBM typewriters and a video cassette player and more than two dozen other pieces of equipment.

Next School Board Meeting
The next regularly scheduled meeting of the Huntington School Board will be held on Monday, March 22 at 7:30 p.m. in the Jack Abrams Intermediate School auditorium. The public is welcome to attend.
